Revamping a Global Benefits Management Platform
How Alliant modernized its client portal to help clients easily manage employee benefits, insurance policies, and renewals worldwide.

The Context
Alliant Employee Benefits needed a system that could help its customers manage their employee benefits and policy renewals in different countries. Globally, policy renewal dates are spread out throughout the year, unlike in the United States, where they typically renew on January 1. For large client companies that operate in several countries, the administration of this service can become very complex. Therefore, Alliant launched the development of a web application, International IQ, to address this issue. Unfortunately, the vendor tasked with this effort closed shop, so Alliant turned to Spiria to take over the application, provide ongoing maintenance and help it meet new business needs.
The Solution
International IQ is an accessible and convenient web application that helps Alliant customers, who typically coordinate employee benefits for multinational companies, easily manage and understand all aspects of their benefits portfolio on a global scale. Taking over the code developed by another company, Spiria's experts updated the data model, allowing for historical tracking of benefits, and modernized the interface to provide easier navigation and a clearer presentation of the information architecture. In addition, Spiria carried out an Infosec review and a GDPR compliance audit of the app, which is critical for the many EU-based customers.
The Results
Alliant experienced a smooth transition from the initial developer to Spiria, and the future of its application is assured. Functional enhancements, such as service tracking that shows customers a yearly cost comparison, clearly set Alliant apart from the competition. Updates take place regularly, and a “Version 3” is in the works with a redesign and many new features.
