Transformation of Application for an Improved Airport Management Experience
How Searidge reimagined data visualization and mapping for airport operations.

The Context
Searidge developed software to analyze and visualize aircraft movements and other monitored ground vehicle movements at airports. When it came time to create a version of the product as a web-based application, it turned to its partner of choice, Spiria. One of the challenges of this project was rendering huge amounts of data to plot the aircraft and vehicle positions in playback mode. The second was displaying the correct airport map to show all the monitored objects. Finally, the application needed to represent the data as a heatmap.
The Solution
In order to improve the web application’s look and feel and to offer a better user experience, Spiria undertook a complete redesign of the front-end of an earlier prototype version, using React and Material UI. Following an in-depth analysis, Spiria and Searidge developers opted to replace the backend with a lighter-weight Node.js application capable of efficiently processing the very large amounts of raw data coming from Searidge’s APIs. Spiria also handled this overhaul. At the same time, Spiria’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) specialists developed an OpenLayers-based process to accurately geo-localize any generic airport map in SVG.
The Results
The new web application has exceeded Searidge’s expectations, and is currently being deployed at major airports in the Middle East and in the Asia-Pacific region. Demonstrations of the application at international industry tradeshows have generated a great deal of interest in the industry and have led to new opportunities for the company. The Spiria and Searidge teams are already working together on an updated version with enhanced functionalities.
