Xiaomi takes CyberDog for a walk

More futuristic and slightly threatening than cute describes CyberDog, the quadruped robot recently released by Chinese tech giant Xiaomi. The canid robot looks more like Spot, Boston Dyamics’s pet-product priced at US$ 74,500, than like the late and sorely missed Aibo by Sony. It was conceived more as a platform for developers and experts in robotics than for family use. On board, a Jetson Xavier NX chip from Nvidia, 128 GB of SSD storage, a GPS, and various sensors including an Intel RealSense D450 module allow it to map its environment in 3D. Xiaomi claims that CyberDog is agile enough to perform back flips, has a maximum payload of 3 kg, and can trot along at a speed of 3.2 meters per second (which sounds astounding…).
Priced at CNY 10,000 (CA$ 1,975), CyberDog is much more affordable than Spot, but Xiaomi will only distribute 1,000 units, initially for “Xiaomi Fans, engineers, and robotic enthusiasts.” Good luck finding one to play with.
