Recharge your phone in minutes

Such is a phone owner’s dream. . . HyperCharge, Xiaomi’s new 200 W system, claims world records in wired and wireless charging speeds. In a video posted to Twitter, the company demoed a modified Mi 11 Pro phone with a 4000mAh battery and a cord getting a full charge in 8 minutes. The phone charges to 10% in just 44 seconds with power quickly reaching 170 W. Then the power ramps up again to 200 W and the phone achieves a 50% charge in three minutes. The power drops to 150 W while the load reaches 75% in five-and-a-half minutes. Finally, the system slows to 40 W to ease to a full charge in eight minutes. Gently topping off the battery during the latter part of the cycle is meant to protect the battery’s longevity. Wirelessly, the phone recharges in fifteen minutes and tops out at 120 W. Xiaomi isn’t the only company pushing for faster charging speeds. Qualcomm announced 100 W charging technology last year, and Oppo hit 125 W.
