Amazon just announced a new version of its compact, entry-level, Kindle e-reader, with several significant improvements: a sharper 300 ppi screen (rather than the previous 167 ppi), a longer battery life (up to 6 weeks according to Amazon), USB-C charging, and 16GB of storage (up from 4GB). The device, offered in black or denim, will be available from October 12 for 130 CAD, while the previous model stays at 100 CAD for the moment. If you buy the new Kindle, you’ll also get four free months of Kindle Unlimited service, which provides access to over two million titles.
The cheapest Kindle, released in 2019, no longer looked like a great deal after the release of the Kindle Paperwhite a year ago, which featured a much better screen as well as USB-C. Now, the Paperwhite still offers a few advantages for a mere 20 bucks extra: a slightly larger screen, more powerful front lighting, and IPX8 waterproofing so you can use it in your swimming pool or your tub.
