Google’s Pixel 6 makes strides

Canalys’ North American smartphone market share numbers are out, and they show that the biggest Q2 2022 growth went to the Pixel 6. Last quarter, Canalys saw a surge of 380% year over year for Google’s phone, and this quarter it’s up 230%. However, it’s all relative given the sales volume: the company only has a 2% market share in North America, and it shipped 800,000 devices in the second quarter of 2022, which puts it in fifth place behind Apple (52%), Samsung (26%), Lenovo/Motorola (9%) and TCL (5%). Unsurprisingly, the top-selling phone is the iPhone 13 basic model, followed by the affordable iPhone SE and the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The first non-Apple phone in the ranking is the Galaxy S22 Ultra, coming in 6th place. The Pixel results are encouraging, however, and prove that the device is finding its audience.
