First laptops with Intel’s Arc GPUs are coming

Last year, Intel announced that GPUs supporting modern features such as real-time ray tracing and AI-based 4K super sampling would arrive in 2022. This new line of products dubbed Arc is Intel’s attempt to get in the high-end graphics card business and give Nvidia and AMD a run for their money. Today, Intel just launched a first-generation Arc GPU expressly for laptops. It comes in three flavors: Arc 3, which uses between 25 and 50 W, Arc 5, from 60 to 80 W, and the most powerful Arc 7, from 80 to 150 W. Intel will come out with a version for desktops later in the year, at the end of summer most likely. Laptops equipped with Arc 3 GPUs will hit the market now. That will give us a chance to check out the graphic cards’ actual performance and their potential for gaming.
