Microsoft has been working on a version of ARM64 for Visual Studio 2022, and is now releasing a new, mini ARM PC for developers. A Visual Studio ARM preview will be out in the next few weeks. Though ARM machines such as the Surface Pro X could run Visual Studio through an x64 emulation, some functionalities were not supported and performance suffered.
What’s more, Microsoft has partnered with Qualcomm to offer developers a small, affordable ARM PC called Project Volterra that looks like a Mac Mini. It uses a Snapdragon processor and a neural processing unit (NPU) with which developers can build native AI applications. Just one year ago, Microsoft revealed a Windows on ARM development kit, created with Qualcomm.
