Amazon announced the opening of a new game development studio in Montreal. The newcomer will be run by industry veterans who worked on Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege. This is Amazon’s fourth studio, with the other three located in Seattle, San Diego and Orange County. “Building upon 8 years of experience with Siege, we are excited to start with a blank page and the creative freedom to create a completely unique experience in the multiplayer space,” said Xavier Marquis, Creative Director of the new studio, who was recruited from Ubisoft. Amazon’s new CEO, Andy Jassy, expressed his full support for the company’s foray into game production, even if it has been a struggle. Amazon Games’ first major project, Breakaway, was put on indefinite hold at the end of 2017, then canceled in 2018. The company is working on the MMORPG New World, which should finally launch on August 31 after several postponements. Perhaps the first blockbuster for Amazon Games will come out of Montreal?
