Late 2014, Apple released its first 27-inch Retina 5K (5120 x 2880) iMac. This model and the following were a hit in the workplace, especially with creatives. The latest model, however, which still comes with an Intel processor, was just withdrawn from the sales floor with no Apple chip-equipped successor announced. Creatives have therefore fallen back on the Mac Studio, sans screen, camera, or sound system, which portends a cluttered desk and nests of cables.

Now HP has taken over the idea, obviously with the intent of attracting the same clientele. Its new all-in-one PC is equipped with a 34-inch 5K (5120 x 2160) screen, a base that allows wireless charging (15W Qi), speakers by Bang & Olufsen (2 x 2W) and a magnetic 16MP webcam that can be mounted anywhere on the edge of the screen. An optional second camera enables two video streams. Users can videoconference with one camera focusing on their face while a secondary view simultaneously presents their work surface, a product prototype, or an actual document. Under the hood, there’s a 12th Gen Intel vPro processor (up to Core i9), an Nvidia RTX 3060 GPU, up to 4TB of storage on two NVMe SSDs, and 128GB of RAM. The 34-inch HP AiO is expected to be available in September for a starting price of CAD 2,200.

Ars Technica, Scharon Harding, “HP’s 5K ultrawide all-in-one has workhorse specs, dual magnetic webcams.”
