HP launched Dev One, a new Linux laptop for developers. This 14-inch screen (1,920 × 1,080) laptop is more affordably priced than the previous Ubuntu-based HP models. Starting at USD 1,100, Dev One comes with an eight-core, 16-thread AMC Ryzen 7 Pro 5850U with a 1.9-4.4 GHz clock speed and integrated Radeon graphics. Pop!_OS, an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution from System76, is preinstalled. The standard 8GB DDR4-3200 RAM can be bumped up to 64GB. Storage is on a 1TB SSD. As far as ports go, there are two USB-C, two USB-A, an HDMI and a headphone jack. The purported battery life is twelve hours. The trackpad is off-center, which could annoy OCD people. It’s available now, though only in the US for the time being.

Ars Technica, Scharon Harding, “HP releases its $1,099 Linux laptop for developers.”
